How to Make a Lyric Video Free (Turn Any Song into a Video)

You can make a lyric video from any song, free, in a browser tab. Feed the tool an audio file, pick a frame size, drop the lyrics on top, and it renders a real video with the words lighting up in time and the song baked in. It works the same whether the track came from Suno, from your own session, or from a beat you bounced this afternoon. This is the audio-to-video route, and it takes about ten minutes start to finish.

How to make a lyric video from a song

The tool for this is ClipCraft's Video Captions. It was built for burning animated captions into videos, but it has a second mode made for exactly this: give it audio instead of video and it builds the frame around the song. Here is the whole flow.

1. Create a free account. No card. The free plan's 100 monthly tokens easily cover an export (2 tokens), so your first finished lyric video is free.
2. Open the captions tool and press the "🎧 Create from audio" button under the preview stage.
3. In the setup box, choose your audio file, a size, and a background.
4. Press Create video. The preview turns into your sized frame with the song loaded under it.

The size chips match where lyric videos actually go: 1920×1080 for a YouTube lyric video, 1080×1920 for TikTok, Reels and Shorts, 1080×1080 for a square feed, plus 1280×720, 720×1280, and a custom width and height field for anything odd. The background is either a solid color (swatches and a full picker) or an image you upload, which you can drag to reposition and zoom from 1 to 3 times.

One thing that trips people up. The default background is a flat chroma green, hex #00b140. That is deliberate, so you can render the lyrics over green and key them onto footage later in a video editor, but if you only want a lyric video, swap it for your cover art or a dark color first. I dropped a piece of moon artwork in as the background and nudged it up a touch so the title cleared the captions.

Put the lyrics on screen

A song over a still image is technically a video. Lyrics that light up word by word are what make it a lyric video. You get the words in two ways, and since you wrote or prompted this song, one of them is free.

The free way: copy the lyrics and paste them into the captions box. A line break becomes one caption; paste a whole paragraph instead and it splits into short chunks, four words each by default. Timings spread across the song automatically, weighted by how long each line is, so a six-word line holds the screen longer than a two-word one. Every line keeps a start and end time you can retype, and the tap-to-sync button plays the song and stamps each line's start when you press Space.

The other way is the ✨ Auto captions button, which transcribes the song with AI and hands back every word with its own timestamp, so the highlight lands the instant each word is sung. It costs 5 tokens per started minute. My 2:34 test track showed about 15 tokens on the button before I touched it, and the free plan comes with 100 tokens a month, so it fits. For a song you already have the words to, I would paste them first: the lyrics come out exact and free, and you save the tokens for a track where you want word-perfect timing without tapping it in by hand.

Pick a style that fits the song

There are 82 caption styles in the gallery, and every tile animates a live preview so you can watch the highlight move before you commit. In my opinion the karaoke styles suit lyric videos best, because the color sweeping through each word reads as singing along rather than subtitling a documentary. Neon styles are a close second for anything synth-heavy, and the big bold ones fit rap. Switching styles is one click and it keeps your timings, so try a few. Export the video and post it

When it looks right, press Export. The render happens in your browser, in real time: the tool plays the song once while recording, so a 2:34 track takes about 2:34 to export. Keep the tab open while it runs. Chrome usually saves a WebM file, which YouTube, TikTok and Reels all accept, and the export costs a couple of tokens on the free plan, the only charge in the whole flow.
